Mastering New English Vocabulary

Learning new words can present a considerable challenge for young learners aged 2-8 if instructors rely on old techniques of using a Chinese dictionary. Many a joke has been published in the social/news media about awkward and sometimes embarrassing misunderstandings from the simple Chinese translation. Of course we are not putting the blame on dictionaries but the unique nature of the Chinese language can give rise to huge differences in meaning. So at S2L we rely on images, body language and simple examples to convey meaning. We feel understanding of each English word is a gradual process and should not be forced upon the young mind. What we aim for initially is an overall understanding of the whole rather the parts. Perfection will be achieved through lots of reading, speaking, listening and watching.
